Fort Pulaski National Monument
Located on the Georgia Coast, Pulaski was built, in part, under the supervision of Lt. Robert E. Lee. Early in the Civil War it was taken by Confederate troops. Aprtil 1862, it was bombarded by US Navy ships with rifled cannons. Their destructive power was evident in the badly damaged walls. The Confederate garrison surrendered when they realized that they had no adequate defense for the fort. We have visited the fort several times, including while researching our books on the CCC and George Grant. We gave a presentation at the fort about Grant in August 2016.
